bio
I’ve been fortunate to have had a diverse career in the music business as a guitarist, recording engineer, songwriter, and record producer. My journey began in 1960 playing with Dick Dale and the Deltones, widely regarded as the pioneers of the California surf sound. Later, I toured with legendary acts such as The Righteous Brothers, Nino Tempo and April Stevens, David Cassidy, Nancy Sinatra, and Paul Williams.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on recordings with iconic artists, including John Lennon, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Billy Joel, The Righteous Brothers, Paul Williams, Kris Kristofferson, Bill Medley, and many others.
In the 70s I spent a number of years as a songwriter with MGM Records and A&M Records. Numerous artists, such as Randy Crawford, Bill Medley, Linda Carter, and Paul Williams, have recorded my songs.
In 1980 I opened a recording studio in my home in L.A. We served many of the music publishing companies recording demos for songwriters. I worked with some of the best musicians, writers and artists in L.A. They include Diane Warren, Allan Rich, John Capek, Michael Ruff, Vonda Shepard, Brenda Russell, David Sanborn and so many more.
Outside of music, I’ve explored other ventures. In the 1970s, I bought and flipped homes for a while—thankfully, I got out before the housing bubble! From my recording studio I started selling blank cassettes and media supplies to my recording clients. This eventually led to a new venture, in 1989, when I discovered the Internet (then ARPANET) and began selling DAT tape to Deadheads, via newsgroups. That small business evolved, and in 1994, I launched my first website, tape.com, under the company name Cassette House. The business grew until we sold it to one of our suppliers in 2004.
In recent years, I’ve been writing and producing music with my wife, soulmate, and best friend, Robin Munson. Together, we also compose production music that has also appeared on networks such as MTV, VH1, TLC, BRAVO, NATGEO, Telemundo, FOX, DIY, and Style, among many others. It has been featured on countless TV shows and commercials, including: The Today Show (NBC), The Voice (NBC), Raising Hope (FOX), Oprah (ABC), Let’s Make a Deal (CBS), ABC World News (ABC), Burn Notice (USA), Nate Berkus (NBC), Dance Wars (ABC), American Pickers (History Channel), Keeping Up With the Kardashians (E!)
Through all of these experiences, music has always remained my first love. I decided long ago that it would always be my top priority—and it’s a decision I’ve never regretted. It’s been a truly blessed journey, and I’m constantly reminded that the journey itself is more important than the destination.
